Octopus Islands

'Hole in The Wall'
From Toba Wilderness Marina, we headed northwest and crossed Calm Channel to transit ‘Hole in The Wall,’ a small channel between Sonora Island and Maurelle Island.
Un-named channel to Octopus Islands Marine Park
This rather scenic waterway, with current present even at slack, brought us to Okisollo Channel where we entered another narrow waterway, arriving at Octopus Islands.  These islands are a popular anchorage area and are wonderful for kayaking or exploring by dinghy.
Beautiful Octopus Islands Marine Park
The islets are fun to explore on foot as well and offer some picturesque scenery.  We think Octopus Islands Marine Park is one of the highlights of the greater ‘Discovery Passage’ area.  The designated marine park of Octopus Islands is accessed from the north through a narrow channel which we took, or from the south through Waiatt Bay.
Waiatt Bay next to Octopus Islands
This entire bay has good anchoring depths and plenty of room for a large number of boats.  We found 9 sailboats and 4 power vessels in the bay and it still seemed very spacious.  It was a quiet celebration on July 1st, Canada Day, among the Islands and Waiatt Bay.
